Short answer

Separate a toilet-included quote from installation labor. Check rough-in size, flange repairs and extra connection work.

You have picked a new toilet, but the plumber’s installation price leaves you wondering what else you still need to buy. Start with one question: is the toilet included, or are you paying only to have yours fitted?

So a standard toilet supplied and installed is $500 to $900 at James Armstrong Plumbing in Plano, Texas. If you supply the fixture, its standard installation labor is $350 to $600.

I will separate those offers from repairs beneath the toilet, help you check the fit before ordering, and show you a homeowner quote alongside completed customer-job figures.

Toilet Included or Installation Only?

James Armstrong Plumbing’s Plano menu makes that distinction clear. These are its published local ranges:

Fit a standard toilet you supplyJames Armstrong Plumbing; installation labor, fixture extra$350 – $600
Standard toilet supplied and installedJames Armstrong Plumbing; standard fixture included$500 – $900
Comfort-height or high-efficiency installationJames Armstrong Plumbing; separate unit-installation category$600 – $1,200

For a toilet you buy yourself, add the actual purchase price to the fitting quote. I would not subtract the ends of these ranges to invent a fixture price; they describe different offers rather than matching invoices.

Armstrong includes removal and disposal of the old toilet. Ask your installer whether the quote also covers the new seal and bolts, supply connector and testing.

Check the Fit Before Buying

A toilet that looks right in a store can still be wrong for the drain position. Kohler’s buying guide measures the rough-in from the wall, not the baseboard, to the floor bolts.

Kohler identifies 12 inches as the most common floor-mounted rough-in, with 10-inch and 14-inch options too. Have the installer confirm your measurement and the selected model before you order.

Also check the bowl’s length, the seat height and room for the door to open. A round-front bowl can save space; an elongated bowl reaches farther into the room. Compare the product’s dimensions with the space you actually have.

A wall-hung toilet needs a compatible in-wall tank and support system. Kohler’s guide matches those tanks to the wall stud depth. That is a different installation from setting a floor-mounted toilet on an existing connection.

What the Plumber Finds Underneath

The flange connects the toilet to the drain and provides its mounting point. A leaking seal, damaged flange and weak floor are different findings, even though each can show up around the base.

Armstrong’s wax-ring replacement and reset service is $200 to $400. Its closet-flange repair or replacement range is $300 to $600. Have the plumber identify the repair before treating either amount as an automatic installation extra.

Pulling and resetting means lifting a toilet and reinstalling it with a new seal. It does not necessarily mean buying a new fixture. If the bowl and tank are sound, ask whether a repair will solve the problem.

For soft or rotten flooring, my subfloor replacement guide explains the wood repair beneath the finished surface. That work needs its own scope before the toilet can be supported properly.

Decide who approves additional repairs once the old toilet is lifted. Ask how much installation work is already covered, so removing and resetting the toilet does not quietly appear twice on the bill.

An Owner Quote and Completed Customer Jobs

Here are three useful comparisons. The homeowner account is a quote; the other figures come from a plumbing company’s completed-job review dated September 16, 2026.

Farrell charges separately for flange work and other repairs. Its customer-supplied example had a separate 10% invoice discount. The prices above are the per-toilet charges before those discounts.

The company serves Florida’s Tampa Bay area. These completed-job examples give you another local comparison without turning one contractor’s work into a nationwide average.

Extra Connection and Access Work

Farrell identifies additional shutoffs, drain work, wall access and surface repairs as separate unless listed in the proposal. Have the plumber include any of these your installation needs.

If the move is part of a new layout, my bathroom remodel guide helps you plan the room around the fixtures. Do not use a simple toilet-swap offer as a budget for that construction work.

Getting the Job Ready

Send the plumber the toilet model, photos of the current installation and any signs of leaks or movement. Mention stairs, limited access and whether this is the home’s only working toilet.

If you supply the fixture, agree who handles missing parts or damage in the box. Ask the plumber to confirm the contents before removing your only toilet, rather than discovering an order problem halfway through.

Once it is installed, check that the toilet sits firmly and watch the plumber test flushing and the connections. Keep the model details and the workmanship warranty with your receipt.

Questions About Toilet Installation

Does the installation price include a new toilet?

Check the offer. Armstrong separates customer-supplied installation labor from its standard toilet supplied-and-installed package. A low fitting quote can leave the fixture purchase to you.

Can the plumber reuse my old toilet after a seal repair?

A pull-and-reset service reinstalls a usable toilet with a new seal. Ask whether the fixture itself has failed or whether the problem is its seal, flange or support.

What rough-in sizes does Kohler describe?

Kohler identifies 12 inches as the most common floor-mounted rough-in, with 10-inch and 14-inch options too. Its wall-hung tanks match the wall stud depth.

What extra work can change the installation price?

Armstrong quotes damaged-flange and soft-subfloor work separately after inspection. Farrell also identifies additional shutoffs, drain work, wall access and surface repairs as separate unless listed in the proposal.
