Your storm door has started scraping the sill, or the closer no longer catches it before the wind does. If you are replacing it, the first price to separate is the door itself from the work of fitting it.
So storm door installation labor is $225 at The Coastal Handyman and $260 to $455 at Nick’s Handyman Service in central Indiana. The door costs extra at both businesses.
I will explain what those labor prices cover, which opening problems can add work, and why an entry-door replacement bill is a different comparison. The US service menus were checked October 28, 2026.
What Installers Charge for the Labor
The Coastal Handyman’s $225 labor menu includes pickup and delivery; the door is billed separately. Its homepage adds a $50 mileage fee beyond 30 miles round trip from Jacksonville ZIP code 32224.
Nick’s menu also keeps the storm door separate from the $260 to $455 installation labor. Its page gives a $150 service minimum plus materials, which is below that storm-door labor range.

Nick’s final invoice is based on actual labor hours plus materials. Hidden damage or changes to the work can alter the total, with your approval.
Ask the installer to include the door’s exact model and the work around it in the proposal. Old-door disposal, damaged trim and a handle sold separately can change what you still need to pay.
The Door You Choose Changes the Rest
Check the handle, lock and closer in the product’s included-parts list before comparing two door prices.
A door advertised without a handle set needs that part priced separately. The installer should also check that the storm-door handle will clear the entry-door handle behind it.
I would compare a complete door order rather than just the large number on the shelf label. Then add the agreed labor, any opening repairs, delivery charges that apply and tax.
Measure the Opening Before Buying
Andersen’s measuring guide starts with the trim and available mounting space. It also warns that the entry-door handle’s depth and position can require more clearance.
For width, Andersen measures between the inside faces of the exterior trim at the top, middle and bottom, then records the shortest measurement. Height runs from the sill to the underside of the top trim.
The measurements have to match the chart for the selected model. Andersen’s guide has different opening ranges for different series, so a nominal door width alone is not enough to order from.

Have the installer confirm the fit and hinge side before the order goes in. A storm door that opens the wrong way can interfere with the entry, railing or the way you normally carry things inside.
What Can Make Installation a Bigger Job?
A new door needs sound material to fasten to. Soft trim, a damaged sill or an opening that needs alteration is more work than fitting the replacement into an undamaged opening.
The new closer, sweep and latch need setting so the door closes and catches properly. Before the installer leaves, try both doors together and check that the handles and closers do not interfere.
If you also need the main entry door replaced, have that listed as a separate part of the job. A storm door is the outer door; replacing it does not automatically replace the main door or its frame.
What Homeowners Paid for Storm Doors and Larger Projects
These DC Urban Moms reports show why the scope matters. Only the first gives a separate amount for the storm door, and it does not divide that amount into materials and labor.
- On May 22, 2024, at 14:38, a homeowner put the storm door in a larger door project at around $1,000.
- On May 26, 2024, at 13:49, another homeowner reported $7,400 including labor for a ProVia front door, sidelights, a transom and a glass storm door.
- On October 28, 2024, at 14:38, a poster reported $2,100 with installation while describing a fiberglass ProVia entry door and an added storm door.
The two complete-entry bills cannot tell you a storm-door installation rate. I would use them to check which doors, glass panels and framing work a contractor is actually proposing.
Would I Fit It Myself?
If the opening is sound and you can follow the selected door’s instructions, DIY may let you keep the labor money. Read the model’s measuring and installation guides before deciding that the opening is straightforward.
I would use an installer for damaged mounting trim, uncertain fit or a heavy door I could not safely handle. A wrong-size purchase is an expensive way to find out that the opening needed checking first.
For doors inside the house, my interior door installation guide explains slabs and prehung units. That is different work from attaching an outer storm door.
Storm Door Installation Questions
Is the storm door included in the installation price?
Not in the menus checked here. The Coastal Handyman charges $225 for labor, and Nick’s Handyman Service gives $260-$455 for labor plus the storm door.
Does installation include pickup?
The Coastal Handyman explicitly includes pickup and delivery. Confirm that part of the scope with any other installer before ordering.
Can I order by the size of my existing entry door?
Use the storm-door opening measurements and the selected model’s chart. Andersen measures inside the exterior trim, rather than simply using the main door’s nominal size.
Will replacing the storm door fix a rotten frame?
The damaged mounting material needs its own assessment and repair. Have that work agreed before fastening a new door to the opening.
