Who we are
CostCheckr is a website of price guides at https://costcheckr.com. It sells nothing, takes no bookings and does not ask you to create an account. You can reach us at costcheckr@gmail.com.
What we collect
Almost nothing directly. There are no comment boxes, no sign up forms and no accounts for readers. You can read every guide without telling us anything about yourself.
The search box and the calculators. What you type into the search box is sent to our server so it can find matching guides. The price calculators work inside your own browser; what you pick in them is not sent to us.
The hosting company. Like every website, our host receives the basic details any browser sends when it asks for a page, such as your IP address, the page asked for and the type of browser, and uses them to deliver the page, keep the site running and block attacks.
Email. If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply.
Analytics
We may use Google Analytics to count how many people read the site and which guides they read, so we know which pages are useful and which need work. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technology to do that. It records things like the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, the type of device and browser, and how you arrived at the site. We do not use it to identify you.
You can read how Google uses this data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can stop Google Analytics collecting data about you on every site with the Google Analytics opt out browser add-on.
Advertising
CostCheckr is paid for by advertising, which keeps every guide free to read. We use Google AdSense.
Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
If other ad networks or vendors serve ads here, they will be named on this page with a link to their own policies and opt out pages.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. On this site they come from the analytics and advertising described above. The site itself does not need cookies to show you a guide.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The guides will still work.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California give you the right to ask what personal data a business holds about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. Because we do not hold accounts, names or email addresses for readers, there is usually nothing about you here to see, change or delete. If you have emailed us and want that email deleted, write to costcheckr@gmail.com. What analytics and advertising partners hold is covered by their own policies, linked above.
We do not sell personal information.
Links to other sites
Some guides link to other websites, such as a maker’s or a shop’s own pages. We do not control those sites and this policy does not cover them.
Children
CostCheckr is written for adults. It is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If the site starts collecting anything new, this page changes first and the date at the top changes with it.
