Your oil-change appointment includes an offer to rotate the tires, and you are wondering whether the extra charge is fair. The first thing to check is whether that price buys rotation alone or balancing too.
So tire rotation costs $20 at Bayleaf Service Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, and $25 for all tires at Fast Lane Oil & Tire in Talladega, Alabama. Those are the shops’ separate rotation menu prices.
I will show you the larger rotation-and-balance charge, explain which tires can move where, and share what owners found in dealer service offers. You may also already have rotation included with an earlier tire purchase.
Rotation Alone Versus Rotation and Balance
Rotation moves the wheel-and-tire assemblies to different positions on the car. It does not normally mean taking each tire off its rim.
These two local menus keep the services separate:
Fast Lane also has a $15 one-side rotation option. That is a smaller job than its all-tire service, so tell the shop what your vehicle needs before using the lower amount to compare prices.

Bayleaf also separates balancing on its menu: $39.99 for all four tires.
For a routine visit, I would book the service I actually need and ask for the total with tax and any fees. Buying the larger package simply because its name includes rotation can add work you did not intend to order.
Check Your Existing Tire Receipt
Look at the receipt from the shop that sold you the tires. If later rotations are included, ask where you can use that benefit and whether the booking must be made under the original purchase.
Make sure balancing has its own answer. Included rotation, a tire warranty and a road-hazard plan describe different benefits; one does not establish the terms of the others.
There is also the trip to consider. An included visit at a distant shop may be less convenient than paying for rotation while the car is already in for service nearby.
What Owners Paid and Were Offered
These Mazdas247 examples include oil service as well as rotation. I have kept the bundle intact because the posts do not price rotation separately:
- On November 19, 2021, ceric in the San Francisco Bay Area answered $69.99 in a discussion of dealer oil-change and rotation charges. The member later linked the dealer’s Newark, California service offers.
- On September 3, 2024, JXS received a $189 offer for an EPR oil change with tire rotation. The owner described a dealer recommending services for Midwest conditions.
- In that same September 3 post, JXS received a second dealer’s $110 oil-change and rotation offer. The post presents both as proposed services, rather than paid invoices.
The two offers to JXS are not the same named oil service. I would not subtract their totals and call the difference a rotation fee.
Can Your Tires Follow a Normal Rotation Pattern?
Michelin’s US rotation guide explains that directional tires roll in one intended direction. With matching sizes, they move front to rear on the same side; swapping sides would require remounting to preserve that direction.
A staggered setup has different front and rear sizes. Those assemblies cannot simply trade axles. The permitted pattern depends on the tire and wheel fitment.

Give the shop the vehicle details and mention directional tires, different axle sizes or aftermarket wheels. The tire markings and vehicle instructions determine the pattern.
All-wheel drive still needs appropriate tire maintenance. Michelin describes keeping wear balanced across the set to support traction and protect driveline components.
When Is Rotation Due?
Michelin’s main article recommends 5,000 to 7,000 miles, but its FAQ gives 6,000 to 8,000 miles. Both point to the vehicle maker’s schedule, which I would follow for your car.
Keep the service date and mileage on the invoice. If one tire is wearing much faster than the others, have the cause inspected instead of assuming that moving it will solve the problem.
For wheel-angle adjustment, see the wheel alignment cost guide. Rotation changes positions; alignment addresses wheel angles.
If the tire is already damaged or worn out, our tire replacement cost guide covers buying and fitting replacements. Moving a worn-out tire does not give it new tread.
Questions About Tire Rotation Prices
How much does a basic tire rotation cost?
The separate menu prices checked here are $20 at Bayleaf Service Center and $25 for all tires at Fast Lane. Taxes, fees and vehicle-specific work should be confirmed with the shop.
Does tire rotation include balancing?
Not automatically. Fast Lane has separate rotation and rotation-with-balancing prices, so look at the service description rather than only its title.
Can directional tires be rotated?
Michelin describes front-to-rear rotation on the same side when the sizes match. The rotation must preserve the tire’s intended rolling direction.
Should you pay for an alignment every time?
Michelin distinguishes an alignment check from adjustment. A full adjustment follows measurements showing that it is needed; it is a separate service from moving the tires.
