A shop has found a bad fuel injector, but the estimate includes a whole set. Before you agree, find out which injector failed, how it was tested and why the others are included.
So what does fuel injector replacement cost? Two 2016 Honda Pilot accounts on CarComplaints dated 2019 report injector repair costs of $1,700 and $1,889.90. Those reports came before Honda announced wider injector warranty coverage.
For a current diesel comparison, Austin Diesel Specialists publishes $400 to $800 per injector installed, or $2,500 to $5,000 for a six-cylinder set. A gasoline car needs a quote for its own system.
I will explain the single-versus-set question, share the owners’ details and show where a warranty could change the bill. Cleaning and fuel-pump replacement are separate jobs.
What the Injector Quote Is Buying
An injector meters fuel into the engine. The fuel pump supplies that fuel, so a pump estimate and an injector estimate should name different components.
Austin Diesel Specialists includes parts and labor in its $400 to $800 individual-injector range. Its six-cylinder set range is $2,500 to $5,000, depending on the platform and injector quality selected.
The shop describes OEM and aftermarket options, testing and post-installation calibration. Ask which part choice your estimate uses and whether any old-part deposit is included.
I would keep those diesel prices in their own column when comparing repairs. They do not establish the price of one gasoline injector or a four-cylinder gasoline set.
What Honda Pilot Owners Paid and Were Quoted
The following US owners all had 2016 Pilots. Their accounts show complete repair experiences rather than injector retail prices:
- Ben T. in Chantilly, Virginia, paid a Honda dealer $1,889.90, in an account dated December 28, 2019. The Pilot had 28,333 miles, and Honda initially declined to contribute.
- Kevin K. in Denver, Colorado, reported that all injectors needed replacement at the owner’s cost of $1,700, dated April 13, 2019. The problem returned after an earlier software update.
- chandrajpga in Suwanee, Georgia, received a $1,250 dealer estimate, dated August 14, 2019. The owner describes having the Pilot repaired and renting a car, but does not give a separate final invoice total.
These accounts predate the warranty expansion below. A dealer’s refusal in an old post should not decide what you pay today.
Some Honda Injectors Have Extended Coverage
Honda’s March 2021 owner letter covers specified 2017-2019 Pilots and Ridgelines, and 2018-2019 Odysseys. It extends injector coverage to 10 years from original purchase or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Under that letter, a dealer repairs an eligible injector-related fault free during the extended term. It also describes possible reimbursement for earlier paid repairs, subject to its instructions.
A separate Honda letter covers specified 2016-2017 Pilots, 2017 Ridgelines and 2018 Odysseys whose repair may include a software update. That extension also has the 10-year or 150,000-mile limit.
Give a Honda dealer your VIN, mileage, original purchase date and previous repair invoice. Ask which bulletin applies and whether reimbursement remains available. In October 2026, the age limit can matter even on a low-mileage 2016 vehicle.
Do You Need Every Injector Replaced?
The answer starts with the test and the repair procedure for your engine. Honda’s campaign describes injector wear or clogging caused by manufacturing debris, and its dealer instructions call for injector replacement on affected vehicles.
Austin Diesel Specialists accepts targeted replacement when the remaining injectors test within specification. Its full-set option addresses widespread wear on higher-mileage engines.
Ask which injectors the shop will use and whether its price includes testing and calibration. The warranty should explain who pays fitting labor if a replacement fails.

Cleaning Is a Different Decision
Luxury Auto Works’ injector-cleaning page describes cleaning and testing existing injectors. It does not give a replacement price, and I have not used it to price new injectors.
Ask what test supports cleaning rather than replacement. A cleaning offer should explain whether it treats the injectors on the engine or removes them for testing, and what happens if an injector still fails afterward.

That distinction matters if you have already paid for plugs or coils. Give the shop those invoices so it can investigate the remaining fault rather than repeat the same work.
Questions About Injector Replacement
Is a quoted injector price for one injector or a set?
It must be stated. Austin Diesel Specialists has separate installed prices for an individual diesel injector and a six-cylinder set. Ask your shop to put the quantity beside the part number.
Can I use the diesel price to budget for a gasoline car?
Use a quote for your engine. Injection design, parts, access and required calibration change the job; the Austin diesel menu does not price a gasoline replacement.
Are the Honda owner reports current prices?
No. They are dated 2019 and help explain the repair scope. Honda later expanded coverage for certain vehicles, so eligibility should be checked before relying on those old repair costs.
Will injector cleaning repair every faulty injector?
Austin Diesel Specialists describes ultrasonic cleaning and flow matching for carbon-clogged injectors that are mechanically sound. Worn or failed units may still need replacement.
