Your BMW has asked for new brake pads, but the quote also includes sensors and rotors. Before you approve it, you need to know which parts are worn and whether the price covers the front, rear or all four wheels.
So how much does BMW brake pad replacement cost? Tom Bush BMW Orange Park in Florida gives a pad replacement estimate of $300 to $500 per axle. With rotors, its estimates are $600 to $1,100 front and $500 to $900 rear.
I will walk you through those prices, genuine BMW parts, the sensor charge and what owners paid. For other makes, see my general brake pad replacement guide.
BMW Brake Prices Per Axle
One axle means both front wheels or both rear wheels. Tom Bush BMW’s June 2026 guide gives these estimates for dealer service, with higher parts costs on M Sport and performance versions:
The dealer describes wear sensor replacement as part of its pad service. Treat these as budgeting figures: your written price should identify the brake package, parts, labor, tax and any shop fees.

What Genuine BMW Pads, Sensors and Rotors Cost
A pad set and a rotor are sold differently. A front pad set serves the front axle, while a rotor listing can be for just one wheel. Here are genuine parts on BMWPartsDeal for a 2019 BMW 330i sedan, checked October 17, 2026.
That rear listing comes in a pack of 10, so ordering it there would cost 10 × $26.81 = $268.10 before tax and shipping. Ask the seller whether it will supply a single sensor.
These are online selling prices before labor, tax and shipping. The catalog has several pad options for the same model year, so have the supplier match your VIN and brake equipment before ordering.
For the smaller front rotors, BMWPartsDeal’s pair costs 2 × $151.18 = $302.36, before pads or fitting. The larger M Sport rotor also has a separate right-side part; you cannot order two left ones.
The M Sport pad number above is superseded by 34116889570, and the left rotor by 34108858705. Confirm what will ship. Brake paste and any required new bolts or clips also belong on the parts order.
Why Is There a Brake Sensor Charge?
The wear sensor touches the rotor as its pad wears down. Once its circuit is worn through, replacing the pads alone will not restore it. Tom Bush BMW includes a new sensor in the pad service for that reason.
If the quote includes another sensor, ask the shop what it does and why it needs replacing.
Does Every BMW Pad Change Need New Rotors?
No. BMW’s 2026 maintenance booklet calls for checking rotor surfaces and thickness, then replacing them as needed. It does not tell the shop to fit new rotors at every pad change.
BMW’s brake bulletin B34 06 13 also distinguishes the thickness limit used during brake service from the limit used for a vehicle inspection. Passing an inspection alone does not settle whether a rotor can take another set of pads.
Ask for the measured thickness and the applicable BMW service limit for your rotors. The same bulletin, which excludes M vehicles, requires replacement rotors in pairs with new pads.
Light surface rust can clear during normal braking, according to that bulletin. Deep grooves, overheating or vibration need a closer inspection; a photo through the wheel cannot settle the condition of the whole brake.

What BMW Owners Paid or Were Quoted
These US Bimmerpost reports show why the job description matters as much as the number. I have kept the dates with them, since the older bills are useful comparisons rather than today’s price list.
- A Texas owner of a 2017 X5 M was quoted $2,255.92 for front pads, rotors and a sensor at about 40,000 miles. Posted December 13, 2021.
- A Tennessee owner of a 2015 M5 Competition paid $1,200 for a front brake job with rotors at BMW Chattanooga through Value Service. With a brake fluid change, the total was a little over $1,500. Posted April 7, 2022.
- A Southern California owner of a 2023 M3 was quoted $175 to install front pads in an iSweep pad discussion. That was installation, not a pads-and-rotors package. Posted July 29, 2025.
- A Florida owner in the same M3 thread reported spending about $1,000 on iSweep pads and labor, after discussing front and rear installation in the same thread. Posted August 6, 2025.
The M5 owner had to use a different dealer because the local one would not honor the advertised price. That is a useful reminder to check the offer at the dealer doing the work.
Check BMW Value Service Before Booking
BMW expanded its US Value Service program in March 2026. Vehicles qualify from 37 months old through a maximum age of 20 years, with ALPINA excluded, according to BMW’s announcement.
Participating dealers offer brake pad and rotor services with parts and labor included. Use your VIN to get the available price, then compare it with an independent BMW specialist doing the same work.
Also check any maintenance plan you already bought. BMW’s 2026 booklet excludes normal pad and disc wear from standard Ultimate Care and points owners to Ultimate Care+ upgrade options. The contract on your car decides the coverage.
Questions About BMW Brake Pad Costs
Do all four BMW brake pads have to be changed at once?
Front and rear axle services are separate in BMW’s maintenance booklet. Have both axles checked, but a worn front set does not automatically mean the rear set needs replacement too. Pads should be matched across the axle being serviced.
Is a brake fluid change included with new pads?
Do not assume it is. BMW treats brake fluid as a separate maintenance item, and the M5 owner’s bill above increased when it was added.
Can I just reset the BMW brake pad warning?
Resetting the warning will not fix worn pads or a damaged sensor. Have the pads, sensor and wiring checked, then have the service display reset after the required work.
If the estimate includes a fluid change, you can compare that line with my brake fluid replacement cost guide.
