Short answer

Compare Walmart's current oil-change packages, the five-quart allowance and what courtesy checks include before booking.

You could leave the car for an oil change while doing the grocery shopping. First, though, check which Walmart package fits your engine, because the cheapest sign and the service you need may be different.

So Walmart’s oil-change page shows packages from $28.88 for Pit Crew conventional to $72.88 for premium synthetic. Its listed full-synthetic package is $68.88, with up to five quarts and a new filter.

I checked the menu on October 26, 2026. Below are the package names, the reasons your total can grow and three dated customer reports to help you read the quote.

Walmart’s footnote allows location differences and an extra charge for non-featured oil. Confirm tax and the complete total with your selected Auto Care Center.

If you have an older screenshot or see a different price on an individual service listing, compare the package name, date and selected store. Do not assume two online numbers describe the same offer.

Five Quarts Is an Allowance, Not Every Engine’s Capacity

Walmart includes up to five quarts, a new filter and chassis lubrication where applicable. Extra oil costs more; the page does not publish one universal extra-quart rate.

Give the service desk your year, model and engine. Ask it to identify the required quantity and oil specification before approving a package, particularly if the car needs a manufacturer-specific approval.

For an engine needing seven quarts, seven minus five = two extra quarts. Ask the store to price those two quarts and any special filter on the work order instead of estimating the surcharge yourself.

Walmart includes up to 5 quarts. A hypothetical 7-quart engine needs 7 minus 5 = 2 extra quarts, at the center's confirmed rate.

The synthetic oil change guide explains how to compare allowances across other shops. Here, I would compare the complete local total for the same oil specification.

What the Courtesy Services Actually Mean

Walmart’s courtesy menu covers checks of the battery, air filter, wipers, lights and several fluids. Tire-pressure adjustment and washer-fluid filling also appear; these checks do not mean replacement parts are included.

Walmart does not inspect tires for safety as part of these services; it checks and adjusts tire pressure.

Courtesy battery, air-filter or tire-pressure checks do not include buying new replacement parts.

If you are also buying tires, use the separate Walmart tire installation guide. An oil-change booking does not describe a tire-fitting package.

What Customers Paid or Were Quoted

These Bob Is The Oil Guy accounts are local experiences. I have kept the original dates and whether the amount was paid or quoted.

The 2011 and 2019 reports describe older visits. For a visit now, start with the package menu above and your local center’s quote.

Before You Leave the Keys

Check your local center’s hours and appointment availability before planning the shopping trip around it. Ask when the car should be ready, especially if you must be somewhere afterward.

I would keep the final receipt with the car’s maintenance records. Check that the recorded oil, quantity and filter match the work you approved, and raise any discrepancy before leaving.

Questions About Walmart Oil Changes

Can I choose Pit Crew for a car that needs full synthetic?

Choose a service that meets the engine’s oil requirements. A low advertised price does not make conventional oil suitable for an engine that specifies something else.

Is high-mileage oil automatically required once the car gets older?

Age or mileage alone is not the full oil specification. Match the product to the manufacturer’s requirements and discuss any consumption or leak problem separately.

Does a courtesy inspection repair a problem it finds?

No. Ask what the check found, whether the center can perform the repair and what it would cost before authorizing extra work.

Is bringing my own filter always cheaper?

Ask the local center for the total with your supplied filter. Include what you paid for that filter before comparing the result with a complete package.
