Short answer

Plain gold resizing starts at $75 and platinum at $125 at one New Jersey bench. Compare metal, ring construction, size change, plating and added repair work before choosing a jeweler.

Your ring no longer fits comfortably, and a quick size change sounds like a small repair. Before comparing prices, the jeweler needs to see its metal, stones and how much the fit must change.

So Billig Jewelers in Marlton, New Jersey starts plain gold and white-gold resizing at $75, and platinum at $125. Those are starting prices, rather than a maximum for every ring.

I checked the US jeweler menus on October 23, 2026. I will compare their starting offers, explain the extra work to ask about and separate recent customer quotes from broader repair charges.

The Marlton bench menu also starts eternity-band labor at $175, with any needed stones or extra metal separate. That is a different comparison from a plain band.

Capri Jewelers confirms its price after seeing the item. Its sizing start does not promise that every metal, width or size change qualifies for the lowest price.

The Cherry Pick Diamonds repair table labels its figures as starting prices and excludes silver, costume jewelry and watches from its service. Its menu should not become a silver-ring quote.

Why Sizing Up Is Not Always Priced the Same Way

Billig charges the same direction-based price at its own bench for sizing up or down. Cherry Pick publishes different menu rows. There is no reason to impose one shop’s method on another jeweler’s estimate.

Ask for the present size, target size, metal and any stone or pattern work on the repair description. A small change on a plain band is a different task from altering an engraved ring with stones around it.

Two Recent Customer Price Accounts

In a September 2026 PriceScope discussion, maryjane04 reported $350 for resizing a 14k white-gold ring from about size 8 to 8.5, plus engraving on three sides.

The September 12 account identifies the work, and the September 13 follow-up names David Klass in Los Angeles. The $350 covered more than resizing, so it should not be called a plain-band sizing price.

In the same discussion on September 17, luckygreen317 received a $400 to $450 David Klass quote for enlarging an 18k gold, 2.8 mm rounded band from size 6.5 to 8.5. No paid invoice was reported there.

These accounts explain why a published starting offer can sit below a particular customer’s charge. They do not establish an average, and the engraving job includes work absent from the other comparisons.

Check Plating, Repairs and Rush Charges

Ask whether polishing, plating and stone checks are included. For example, Billig includes rhodium re-plating in its white-gold start, so that allowance belongs beside its price when comparing another shop.

The same jeweler’s rush surcharge starts at $75 on top of resizing, subject to availability. Its original purchasers can receive complimentary standard resizing, with complex work and other exceptions assessed separately.

If the shank is worn or damaged, ask whether the proposal is just resizing or replacing part of the band. Have any repair, engraving or additional stones separated before agreeing to the amount.

For wedding planning, my wedding dress alterations guide covers a separate fitting expense. Give both the jeweler and the tailor your actual deadline before relying on standard turnaround.
