Short answer

Compare whole-house supply pipe prices by bathroom count, stories and access, plus the difference between wall patching and a finished room.

Another pipe has started leaking, and this time you are wondering whether to replace the lot. Before agreeing to a whole-house repipe, find out how much of the plumbing the price actually covers.

So repipe cost at Repipe Specialists falls between $4,500 and $15,000 for the majority of its jobs. Its quotes include permits, inspection and wall patching. That is one company’s range, rather than a price for every US house.

I will compare a Houston plumber’s prices by house layout, explain PEX and copper options, and show quotes shared by two homeowners. This guide covers hot and cold water supply pipes.

Whole-House Repipe Prices by Home Layout

Repipe Solutions publishes these PEX-A ranges for Houston-area homes, checked October 27, 2026:

One story, 1-2 baths, under 1,500 sq ftRepipe Solutions, Houston$4,500-$7,500
One story, 2-3 baths, 1,500-2,500 sq ftRepipe Solutions, Houston$6,500-$10,000
Two stories, 2-3 bathsRepipe Solutions, Houston$8,000-$13,000
Two stories, 4+ baths or 3,000+ sq ftRepipe Solutions, Houston$11,000-$15,000

The Houston company’s quotes include patching and painting access points. Fixture count matters as well as floor area: more bathrooms mean more connections, even when the house itself is smaller.

Repipe Solutions Houston PEX-A: small one-story $4,500-$7,500; larger one-story $6,500-$10,000; two-story 2-3 bath $8,000-$13,000; two-story 4+ baths or 3,000+ square feet $11,000-$15,000.

Nick’s Plumbing, also in Houston, starts whole-house repiping at $4,500 and gives $4,500 to $35,000 for most projects. Its broader range covers differences in material, access, house size and drywall work.

A square-foot price alone can miss a second kitchen, extra bathroom or a long run to an outside faucet.

What Is Being Replaced?

Repipe Specialists describes replacing existing fresh hot and cold water piping. Drains carry used water away, and the pipe from the street to the house is another part of the system to identify on the quote.

Ask for a fixture list showing sinks, showers, toilets, appliances and outside taps. Mark any supply lines that will remain, along with whether the main shutoff and fixture valves are being replaced.

A quote that includes the underground main or drain replacement is a larger job than interior supply pipes alone. Our sewer line replacement guide covers the drainage side.

PEX or Copper for the New Pipes?

Repipe Specialists offers Uponor PEX-A with expansion fittings and Type L copper. These are the systems that provider installs, rather than the only choices a local plumber may offer.

Nick’s Plumbing describes PEX as flexible, quicker to install and less expensive than copper. It also explains that PEX needs protection from sunlight, so exposed outdoor runs need a suitable design.

Copper is rigid, and the route and connections affect the fitting work. If you want copper, get a separate price for the same fixture list instead of applying an assumed percentage to a PEX quote.

Walls, Ceilings and the Water Shutoff

The plumbing can be finished before the room looks finished. Repipe Specialists includes patching, permits and inspection in its published range; Repipe Solutions explicitly includes painting its access points.

Have the contractor identify who handles drywall, texture and paint, including matching the surrounding finish. Clearing shelves, moving furniture and protecting floors should also be settled before work starts.

A finished repipe includes an agreed supply fixture list, permits and testing, and clearly assigned wall finishing. Identify drains and the street-to-house main separately.

Repipe Specialists often completes the plumbing in one day, with inspection and patching afterward. Its FAQ promises water back by the end of the repiping day, so discuss the actual shutoff schedule with your crew.

Repipe Quotes Shared by Homeowners

These older forum posts describe quotes for different materials and amounts of finishing work. I have kept the quoted prices separate from what the homeowners eventually chose.

Greenmonster’s account describes drywall replacement without repainting. It does not state the final amount paid.

Repair One Leak or Repipe the House?

One failed connection does not tell you the condition of every pipe. I would want the plumber to identify the pipe material, show the failure and explain why the problem is local or spread through the system.

For a sound system with an isolated leak, a repair may be enough. Repeated failures in different places make the larger project worth discussing, especially before closing newly repaired walls.

If the leak is below concrete, compare a local repair with rerouting that line. The slab leak repair guide explains those options without assuming the whole house needs new pipes.
