Your mechanic points to oil along the bottom of the engine and recommends a new pan gasket. Before you approve it, you want to know how much of the bill buys a seal and how much pays for reaching it.
So an oil pan gasket replacement or reseal is $300 to $700 at Three Brothers Auto Repair in East Rutherford, New Jersey, before tax and shop supplies. Harder BMW jobs in the owner quotes below run much higher.
I will explain what belongs on the estimate, why a new pan sometimes appears beside the gasket, and what three US owners were quoted.
What a Shop’s Published Price Includes
Three Brothers publishes its $300 to $700 range for an oil pan gasket or reseal, with fresh oil included when required. It checks the vehicle and the leak before giving a firm, parts-inclusive quote.
The $150 offer at FIX SERVICE is a starting price, with the final scope agreed after diagnosis. I would ask for the complete fitted total before treating it as a budget for your car.
Its service page gives a duration of 2 to 6 hours. That helps explain why a small gasket can come with a much larger labor charge, but it is not a labor allowance for every engine.
Why Access Changes the Bill
The pan holds oil at the bottom of the engine. Ford’s repair below involves removing the old pan, cleaning the engine sealing surface and fitting a new pan and gasket.
The E90 discussion below describes the subframe getting in the way and bolts that are difficult to reach. That access work helps explain why the gasket itself is only part of the bill.
Ask for the labor hours and rate on your estimate, along with any extra access work. If mounts or another seal are suggested, ask how much extra labor they add while the area is already accessible.

A Gasket, a Reseal or a New Oil Pan?
These descriptions can refer to different repairs. Some pans use a formed gasket; others use a liquid sealant. A damaged pan or a revised repair design can require more than renewing the sealing material.

Ford’s bulletin 25-2395 gives a useful example. For the specified Edge, Fusion and Lincoln vehicles with an oil-pan RTV adhesion leak, it calls for an updated pan and gasket, not another identical reseal.
The bulletin includes selected 2015 to 2017 Edge and 2017 Fusion models with the 2.7L EcoBoost, plus specified Lincoln applications. A dealer should confirm the exact engine and current procedure for your VIN.
The new parts include pan FT4Z-6675-D and gasket FL3Z-6710-B. The repair also has model-specific seals and supplies, so a gasket-only parts price would leave out part of that job.
Make Sure the Oil Starts at the Pan
FIX SERVICE locates the leak and cleans the area before replacing the gasket. Ask the shop to show you where the fresh oil appears. Our car oil leak repair guide covers the wider diagnosis.
Our rear main seal guide covers that separate repair.
What Owners Were Quoted for BMW Pan Gaskets
These forum posts help show the difference between the local reseal menu and a more involved BMW job. They are quotes the owners received, rather than completed invoices.
- A Georgia owner of a 2014 335i xDrive received a $1,800 independent-shop quote for the oil pan gasket. Posted February 27, 2025, by xta1.
- In the same thread, New Jersey member TZ reported $3,000 from a dealer and $2,000 from an independent for a 2014 435i RWD. Posted February 27, 2025.
- South Carolina member bigtigga01 was quoted $900 for a 2007 335i and did the work personally instead. Posted August 11, 2014, so treat it as an older comparison.
The Georgia owner’s description of the parts, labor and tax was approximate. I have kept the reported quote instead of turning those rounded components into a separate calculated total.
Should You Try It Yourself?
The E90 owner who did the work described difficult bolt access and would gladly have paid a shop instead. I would keep that experience in mind before deciding this is a simple gasket swap.
Ford directs its bulletin to trained technicians with the tools and equipment for the job. It tells owners to contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer about whether the repair applies to their car.
Questions About Oil Pan Gasket Replacement
Is a new gasket the same as replacing the oil pan?
No. A reseal keeps the existing pan when the repair procedure allows it. Pan replacement adds a new pan, sometimes because it is damaged or because the maker has revised the design.
Does every oil pan have a rubber gasket?
No. Some use a formed gasket and others use a specified liquid sealant. The correct sealing method comes from the engine’s service procedure.
Does Ford’s updated pan need sealant all around?
In bulletin 25-2395, the updated pan uses a carrier gasket. Ford specifies RTV at the T-joints where the ladder frame meets the front cover, rather than around the whole pan.
Will a powertrain warranty cover it?
Ask the warranty provider to check the confirmed leak against your coverage. A service bulletin alone does not authorize a free repair, and wear, damage and coverage terms can affect the answer.
