You are outside with a locked door and need a price you can trust before someone drives over. Start by asking for the visit charge and the actual door-opening work together, rather than accepting a low number with no explanation.
So ACME Locksmith gives approximately $160 to $215 for a regular-hours door or car lockout in Phoenix, including its service call. That is the company’s rounded local estimate, not a nationwide average.
I checked the provider pages on October 23, 2026. I will separate lockouts, rekeying and key copies, then show why an in-shop owner bill can be much lower than a mobile visit.
The Visit Charge and the Work Charge
The Phoenix price explanation, updated October 7, 2026, separates the trip from the door-opening task. Its approximate combined estimate is already visit-inclusive.
Do not add another service call to that combined Phoenix estimate. If a dispatcher instead gives separate figures, ask for the complete expected total and the conditions that could change it.

Ilan Lock and Key in Portland presents the service call and house-opening work on separate lines. Confirm how those lines apply to your address and time before booking.
Tell the company whether you are locked out, have a broken key or have a damaged lock. Those descriptions do not necessarily buy the same work, even if the initial visit charge is identical.
Rekeying Is a Different Job
Clark’s pricing menu gives $19 to $59 for in-shop rekeying and $3 for a key copy. Those shop services do not include dispatching a technician to your house.
The Portland menu gives $25 to $45 for rekeying, alongside its separate $29 service call. Ask the provider to confirm the chargeable lock or cylinder count and the complete visit total.
Rekeying changes which key operates the existing compatible lock. Replacing hardware is another scope, so have the locksmith explain any new lock, cylinder or other part it wants to supply.
Count the cylinders you want serviced, including a knob and separate deadbolt if both need work. Then confirm the number of new keys included, rather than comparing a vague price per door.
The key photographs show machine cutting and a particular house-key design. Neither establishes that the pictured key can be copied at a basic-key price or fits the locks in your house.

Two Owners’ Older Rekey Bills
These accounts describe shop work and an older house job. I kept the dates and missing details beside the numbers instead of turning a small rekey bill into a mobile lockout price.
- Northern Central Ohio member NUTTSGT posted on July 2, 2024 about $10 to rekey two removed locks and $10 for five keys. That is $10 + $10 = $20, with the owner removing, transporting and refitting the locks in the project account.
- Austin, Texas member pmiranda posted on December 20, 2012 about paying $50 to rekey the house doors. Two locks were replaced, but the account does not itemize the hardware allowance or the full lock count.
The Ohio total is not a whole-house service visit. The Texas bill is also too old and incomplete to establish today’s price for supplying new locks and fitting them at your home.
Before You Authorize Extra Work
Ask the company to identify the expected visit fee, door-opening work, any parts and possible time-related extras. Have it explain changes to the estimate before starting additional work.
If the proposed solution changes from opening a working lock to replacing hardware, ask why. Request the new total, the parts being supplied and the effect on the other keys you use.
For a car, distinguish being locked out from a failed power-lock motor, damaged latch or bent door. My car door repair guide covers those mechanical and bodywork jobs.
I would compare the complete job at the actual time and address. A low starting charge is hard to use when it leaves the main work and the mobile visit unexplained.
Locksmith Price Questions
How much does a locksmith cost for a house lockout?
ACME gives approximately $160 to $215 for a regular-hours Phoenix door or car lockout including the visit. Other companies and times need their own complete quote.
Does the advertised work price include the service call?
Check the wording. ACME separates the visit and opening charges, then gives an approximate combined estimate. Ilan also publishes a separate service-call line.
Is bringing a lock to the shop the same price as a home visit?
No. Clark’s in-shop rekey range is $19 to $59. A mobile proposal needs its own travel charge, lock count, work and included keys checked.
Will rekeying pay for new lock hardware?
Do not assume that. Have the locksmith separate work on your existing compatible lock from any new hardware and confirm how many keys are included.
