Short answer

Replacing an intake manifold gasket costs about $350 to $650 on a four cylinder engine and $600 to $1,100 on a V6 or V8 at a repair shop in Austin. With Dodge's own parts and time, a gasket job on a 5.7 Hemi Durango comes to $173.12.

Your check engine light is on with a lean code, the idle shakes at a stop, or there is coolant or oil around the top of the engine. Then the shop says the intake manifold gasket is leaking.

So how much does it cost to replace an intake manifold gasket? Luxury Auto Works, a repair shop in Austin, charges about $350 to $650 on a four cylinder engine and $600 to $1,100 on a V6 or V8.

The gaskets themselves cost little. With Dodge’s own gasket kit and its job time, a gasket job on a 2022 or 2023 Durango with the 5.7 Hemi V8 comes to $173.12.

In this guide I will show you what shops charge, what the carmakers’ own parts and times add up to, and what owners paid.

I will also show you a bulletin where tightening the bolts fixed the leak, and a warranty that pays for the whole manifold.

What a Repair Shop Charges

Here are the Austin shop’s prices from its February 2026 page:

4 cylinder enginesAustin shop$350–$650
V6 and V8 enginesAustin shop$600–$1,100
BMW, Mercedes, Audi and similarAustin shop, also some Lexus, Infiniti and Acura$700–$1,400

Most of these jobs take 2 to 6 hours of book time, the shop says. The price climbs when the manifold also carries coolant, EGR or PCV parts, or when a throttle body, injector seals or a cracked vacuum tee need replacing too.

What Dodge’s Own Parts and Time Come To

Dodge found cracks at the left front of the intake manifold on some 2022 and 2023 Durango SUVs with the 5.7 liter Hemi. Owners saw a check engine light for a misfire on cylinder 1, a rough idle or shaking while driving.

Its fix is a new manifold with a new gasket kit and throttle body seal, and Dodge pays its dealers 1.0 hour for that job.

Here are the parts on its list from a dealer parts website, checked October 13, 2026, with $132 an hour, Tekmetric’s US average from June 2026:

Intake manifold68189105AC$592.90
Intake manifold gasket kit68545089AA$25.51
Throttle body seal4627591AA$15.61
Labor, 1.0 hourDodge’s time$132.00

So a new manifold comes to $766.02 with Dodge’s parts and time. When only the gaskets leak, the same hour with the gasket kit and the seal comes to $173.12.

The bulletin covered Durangos built from November 27, 2022 to June 10, 2023, and Dodge paid for the repair within the warranty. If yours is one of them and still in warranty, ask a Dodge dealer to check the VIN first.

Check the Bolts Before You Pay for Gaskets

GM told its dealers that loose intake manifold bolts can turn on the check engine light and cause a hesitation or a stall. Its bulletin covers some 2013 to 2017 Malibu, Impala, Camaro, Regal, Envision, ATS, CTS and CT6 models.

It also covers some 2015 to 2017 Colorado and Canyon trucks and the 2017 Acadia, all with four cylinder engines. The codes it names include P0171, the lean code a vacuum leak sets.

GM’s fix is threadlocker on each bolt and tightening them in order, and it pays 0.4 hour for that. That is $52.80 at $132 an hour.

GM adds that the gasket should not be replaced unless testing shows it still leaks after the bolts are tightened.

When the Whole Manifold Is Covered

Volkswagen extended the warranty on the intake manifold to 10 years or 120,000 miles on certain 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 models with its CBFA and CCTA engines. A second extension covers the 2015 Tiguan, CC and Eos with the same engines.

If the check engine light comes on inside those limits and the dealer finds the manifold faulty, the diagnosis and the new manifold are free.

The 10 years count from the day the car was first sold, so some 2016 and 2017 cars are still covered.

What Owners Paid

Here is what owners told NHTSA, the US road safety agency, they paid or were quoted, with a link to each complaint:

  • A mechanic estimated $600 or more to fix an oil leak from the intake gasket at the rear of the intake on a 2012 Jeep Wrangler, filed in March 2020.
  • A new oil cooler housing and intake manifold gasket on an overheating 2014 Dodge Challenger was going to cost $788, filed in February 2021.
  • A Kia dealer said a 2012 Sorento needed a new intake manifold for around $900, filed in November 2018.
  • A new intake manifold on a 2017 Kia Sorento, not covered by the warranty, was going to cost $1,000, filed in September 2022.
  • A new intake manifold assembly on a 2015 Nissan Rogue cost $1,071.48, filed in October 2020.

So owners paid or were quoted $600 to $1,071.48. The bills near $1,000 were for a whole new manifold, which many engines now have in plastic.

Price bars: GM loose bolt fix, 0.4 hour, $52.80; Durango 5.7 gaskets with Dodge's parts and time $173.12; Durango 5.7 new manifold $766.02; 4 cylinder at an Austin shop $350 to $650; V6 or V8 $600 to $1,100; BMW, Mercedes, Audi $700 to $1,400; owners: 2012 Wrangler gasket estimate $600 or more; 2014 Challenger gasket and oil cooler housing $788; 2012 Sorento new manifold at a dealer $900; 2017 Sorento new manifold $1,000; 2015 Rogue new manifold $1,071.48
Dodge’s and GM’s own parts and job times at $132 an hour, a repair shop in Austin, and what owners paid or were quoted.

Signs of a Leaking Intake Manifold Gasket

The Austin shop lists the usual signs: a rough idle, stumbling or stalling at a stop, and a whistle or hiss from the top of the engine. That hiss is a vacuum leak.

The check engine light often comes on with lean codes P0171 or P0174 or with misfire codes, and the idle can run high or hunt up and down.

On engines with coolant passages in the intake, watch for coolant loss with no puddle, a sweet smell from the exhaust or white steam. Stop driving if the engine overheats, the check engine light flashes or the oil looks milky.

Some Questions You Might Have

How much does it cost to replace an intake manifold gasket?

A repair shop in Austin charges about $350 to $650 on a four cylinder engine, $600 to $1,100 on a V6 or V8, and $700 to $1,400 on BMW, Mercedes, Audi and similar cars.

How long does it take to replace an intake manifold gasket?

Most jobs take 2 to 6 hours of book time, the Austin shop says. Dodge pays its dealers 1.0 hour to replace the intake manifold on a 2022 or 2023 Durango with the 5.7 Hemi.

Can I drive with a leaking intake manifold gasket?

Short trips are often fine when the signs are mild. Stop driving if the engine overheats, loses coolant fast, the check engine light flashes or the oil turns milky.

Do I need a new gasket or a new intake manifold?

Plastic manifolds can warp or crack, and then the whole manifold is replaced. Owners paid or were quoted about $900 to $1,071.48 for that.

Can loose bolts cause an intake leak?

Yes. GM tells its dealers to tighten loose intake manifold bolts with threadlocker, a 0.4 hour job, and to replace the gasket only if it still leaks after that.
