You have room for a pool, but one builder’s package price looks much lower than another builder’s complete project. Before choosing between them, find out where each quote stops.
So Pool Pros in Wisconsin lists smaller fiberglass projects around $85,000 to $110,000. Its complete family projects are closer to $150,000 or more. Those are that builder’s examples, rather than a nationwide average.
I checked the US builder pages on October 22, 2026. I will show you the package exclusions, compare older owner reports and explain what I would ask to have included in the final quote.
What the Builders Actually Include
Pool Pros serves northeastern and central Wisconsin. Its package description includes excavation, shell delivery, standard equipment and installation, while size, site access, patios and features affect the project.
Mudslingers’ 2026 price page includes sales tax in its pool packages. However, those packages must be paired with an equipment package, whose price requires contacting the company.
That required equipment changes the comparison. A gunite package starting at $62,500 is not a complete installed-pool total when the required equipment has no published price beside it.
Ask for the pool package, required equipment and site work on one estimate. Otherwise, you could compare a partial package with another builder’s much more complete proposal.

How Size Changes One Builder’s Package
The Indianapolis menu lets you compare sizes within the same product and package terms. Its gunite examples allow depths up to six feet, while the vinyl examples allow up to five feet six inches.
These starts do not establish a national price difference between gunite and vinyl. They show what one builder advertises for specific dimensions, depths and package contents.
The pool photographs illustrate different residential layouts. Neither photograph shows one of the Wisconsin projects or the Indianapolis packages priced here.

What Owners Reported About Their Pools
Three US members compared their projects in a Garage Journal pool thread on March 29, 2024. Their figures describe different materials and levels of owner involvement.
- Lebanon, Tennessee member manwithtools put the 16 x 32-foot vinyl pool alone at around $50,000. That excluded the waterfall, pavers and porch tile. His opening post also describes doing the electrical work himself.
- Brenham, Texas member minytrker reported a $125,000 quote for a 16 x 32-foot gunite pool. He did not report paying that amount for a completed installation.
- Richmond, Virginia member mike93lx recalled a contract above $125,000 for a 16 x 38-foot gunite pool with an automatic cover. He would need to check the contract for the exact figure.
I would not average those reports. One excludes major yard features and includes owner labor, one is a quote, and the third is a recalled contract with a cover.
Where the Rest of the Project Goes
Ask whether excavation assumes ordinary soil and easy machine access. Have the builder explain how unexpected excavation, spoil removal or restricted access would be priced before work begins.
Then check the equipment list, electrical work, plumbing, permits, decking, fencing and yard restoration. An item can be needed for your project without being included in the advertised pool package.
For the surrounding paved area, my concrete slab cost guide explains why preparation and slab specifications belong beside the price. A pool deck still needs its own design and quote.
If you already have a vinyl pool and only need a new liner, use the pool liner replacement guide. Replacing the liner is a different job from building a new pool.
What I Would Compare Before Signing
Give each builder the same pool dimensions, desired depth, equipment choices and finished-yard plan. Ask for an included-work list and a separate list of allowances or work you must arrange.
Request a written process for changes found during excavation. Also ask who handles permits, inspections, equipment startup and the work needed to leave the yard usable.
The useful total is the amount for your agreed finished project. A lower package start helps only when you can see what still needs paying for.
Inground Pool Price Questions
Is $85,000 a national starting price?
No. Pool Pros publishes around $85,000 to $110,000 for smaller fiberglass projects in its Wisconsin market. Other sites, designs and builders need their own quotes.
Does the $62,500 gunite package include equipment?
Mudslingers requires its pool packages to be paired with a separately priced equipment package. Its advertised gunite start therefore is not the complete project total.
Does a larger pool cost the same per square foot?
Do not assume that. The builder’s package, excavation, equipment and surrounding work need pricing together; the published examples do not establish one universal rate.
Can I use an owner’s pool price to check my quote?
Use it to ask about scope. Note the date, dimensions, material, owner labor, cover and yard work before comparing it with a current complete installation quote.
Where These Pool Prices Come From
US builder pages checked October 22, 2026. The owner reports below were posted March 29, 2024 and are not current builder offers.
