The shop has found coolant entering a cylinder and mentioned a head gasket repair. Before you approve it, you need to know whether the estimate covers a new gasket, a damaged cylinder head or a larger engine repair.
So head gasket repair is $1,200 to $4,500 in Irish Mike’s Orlando price guide, depending on the engine. Luxury Auto Works in Austin gives $1,900 to $3,800 for inline-four and some V6 imports, with more complex jobs reaching $7,500 or more.
I checked these US shop pages on October 22, 2026. Below, I will separate the repair from the extras, compare dated owner bills and explain why a warranty check belongs before the payment decision.
What the Shop’s Estimate Covers
Irish Mike’s Total Car Care separates its Orlando estimates by engine and damage:
The two shops cover different cars, so their endpoints are examples rather than a national average. Give the estimator your exact engine, not just the model name.
At Luxury Auto Works, the estimate depends on access, timing components, machining and damage from overheating. Its quoted parts-and-labor range is not a price for the gasket alone.
Why a Small Gasket Can Mean a Large Bill
The gasket seals the joint between the cylinder head and engine block. Reaching it can involve removing intake and exhaust parts, timing components and the head itself. The shop then checks the sealing surfaces before reassembly.

Irish Mike’s describes the gasket part as often $100 to $300. That is a part-only observation from the shop, not a complete parts allowance or a promise that your car uses one gasket.
Honda’s bulletin 26-004 allows 11.5 hours for its specified Accord inspection and head-gasket procedure. It is a warranty job time for that application, not a universal labor allowance.
If you have a Subaru, my Subaru head gasket guide deals with its two-head layout and model-specific examples. This guide covers the broader repair comparison.
Machining and Other Work Can Change the Total
Ask which of those items are already included. Adding every published extra to a complete quote can count the same work twice. A head that is cracked or outside its service limits may need replacement instead of resurfacing.

Keep a larger cylinder head repair separate on the estimate. The gasket, the head casting and the engine block are different parts, even though one failure can involve all three.
What Accord Owners Paid or Were Quoted
A 2018 Accord owner reported paying $4,100 for head gasket replacement in September 2025. The complaint was filed August 25, 2026; later injector, coil and turbo work was described separately.
Another 2018 Accord 2.0T owner reported a repair recommendation of about $4,906 after a failed head-gasket test, including spark plugs. That September 2, 2026 complaint describes an estimate, not a paid bill.
A third 2018 Accord owner, with the 2.0-liter engine and automatic transmission, reported an approximately $5,000 dealer quote, filed October 18, 2026.
Those accounts concern particular cars and repair scopes. They do not establish what every Accord repair costs, and a historical bill does not establish current warranty eligibility.
Check Coverage Before Approving the Repair
Honda’s September 25, 2026 bulletin 26-004 covers an eligible head-gasket condition on 2018 to 2020 Accord manuals. It extends that coverage to 10 years from original purchase or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Honda requires the dealer to check VIN eligibility. The bulletin describes replacing the gasket when coolant enters a cylinder, with further repairs set by inspection. Do not apply this manual-transmission bulletin to every Accord.
For any make, give the dealer the VIN and ask about applicable coverage before paying privately. If you already paid, keep the invoice and ask whether the manufacturer has a reimbursement process for your vehicle.
Confirm the Failure Before Comparing Repair Prices
The Austin shop uses pressure testing, combustion-gas checks, compression or leak-down tests and inspection inside the cylinders. These help separate a gasket leak from a thermostat, water pump, reservoir or external coolant leak.
A misfire code alone is not a complete head-gasket diagnosis. Ask what test failed and what the head and block inspection will include. If the engine overheats, stop driving and arrange an inspection before more damage develops.
Luxury Auto Works estimates two to five business days for many jobs, depending on parts and machining. That is elapsed shop time, rather than a count of hours spent continuously working on your car.
Head Gasket Repair Questions
Is a head gasket repair the same as replacing the engine?
No. A gasket repair keeps the existing engine when its major parts are serviceable. Damage to the head or block can lead to a different estimate. Ask which repair the shop has actually priced.
Does the quote include resurfacing?
Ask the shop. The price pages above treat machining as a possible extra, and the Austin shop quotes it per head. It must not be added twice if your complete estimate already includes it.
Can I drive with a blown head gasket?
Continued overheating or coolant entering the engine can cause more damage. Stop if the engine overheats and have the fault inspected. A low repair quote is not a reason to continue driving a failing engine.
Are all Honda Accords covered by the warranty bulletin?
No. The specific bulletin checked here names 2018 to 2020 Accord manuals and requires VIN eligibility. Ask Honda which bulletin and coverage apply to your exact car.
