You have checked the tire pressures, but the warning light keeps coming back. Before paying for new sensors, find out whether the shop found a dead sensor, a leaking valve or a system that needs a relearn.
So TPMS sensor replacement starts at $45 per sensor installed at Kennedy Tire in New Jersey. Ochoa’s Tire Service in California charges $99 per sensor, including installation, programming and relearn.
I checked the US menus below on October 22, 2026. These are local price examples, and the starting offers do not set a ceiling for your car. Let me show you what each service includes.
One Sensor, a Reset or a Valve Service?
A reset does not replace a failed sensor. A valve service kit replaces sealing parts around a working sensor. Make sure the estimate names the job before comparing prices.
Kennedy’s menu also advertises resets from $10. Its replacement price includes installation, but the page does not break out the programming procedure for each vehicle.
Marshall Motors offers mobile work around Mayfield Heights and Northeast Ohio. Its starting price covers most vehicles; the sensor and vehicle procedure determine the written estimate.
At Ochoa’s, the $99 sensor job already includes programming and relearn. Adding its separate $50 vehicle service to every new sensor would count work twice.
Programming and Relearn Are Different Steps
Schrader’s explanation separates two jobs. Programming writes the right vehicle protocol into a blank programmable sensor. Relearn registers the sensor IDs with the vehicle.
A sensor can therefore be programmed correctly and still need the vehicle’s relearn procedure. That procedure depends on the make, model and year, so a universal reset-button instruction would be misleading.

Ask the installer whether the total covers the sensor, tire removal and refitting, programming, relearn and any wheel balancing required. Have tax and other fees included in the final quote.
What Would Four TPMS Sensors Cost?
Using Ochoa’s advertised price, four sensors calculate as 4 x $99 = $396. The shop offers an in-store discount for replacing all four, but does not publish the discounted total.
That calculation is a comparison point before the unpriced discount and any tax or fees. Ask for the actual package price rather than treating the calculated amount as a four-sensor offer.
Have each sensor scanned before agreeing to a full set. Ochoa’s checks them individually and reuses working sensors during tire replacement. A new set of tires does not automatically mean you need new sensors.
Can You Replace Only the Battery or Valve?
A Schrader sensor body contains sealed electronics and a battery. That battery is not a normal service part; a dead battery can mean replacing the sensor body.
The valve and its seals are a different matter. A service kit can renew parts such as the valve core, cap, grommet and nut. Match the kit to the sensor instead of assuming every valve stem is interchangeable.
Schrader also describes sensors with permanently attached stems. A broken stem on one of those can require the complete sensor, while another design may allow a separate stem repair.

Check the Light Before Ordering Parts
NHTSA’s tire guidance explains that a steady TPMS warning means at least one tire may be significantly underinflated. Check the tires and their pressure promptly.
A light that flashes for 60 to 90 seconds and then stays on signals a TPMS malfunction. It needs inspection, but the pattern alone does not identify the failed part.
Use the cold pressure on the vehicle’s tire placard or in its owner’s manual, not the maximum printed on the tire sidewall. NHTSA recommends checking cold tire pressure monthly, even with TPMS.
Some cars use indirect TPMS, which monitors wheel-speed information instead of physical pressure sensors inside the wheels. Confirm which system your car has before buying an in-wheel sensor.
If the inspection finds a damaged rim, that is a separate estimate. My wheel repair cost guide covers the wheel work.
What Owners Were Quoted
On January 16, 2020, Tacoma World member benzy, whose profile gives Bay Area, California, reported an aftermarket sensor quote of $350 installed.
The same owner reported a $1,350 dealer quote. The post does not itemize how many sensors each quote covered or show a paid invoice, so I would not divide either total into a per-sensor price.
In NHTSA complaint 10511632, filed May 13, 2013, a 2010 Dodge Journey owner reported two dealers quoting $130 each to replace entire sensors after valve hardware cracked.
That older complaint gives a replacement quote, without a separate labor or tax breakdown. It shows why damaged valve hardware can lead to an assembly estimate, rather than establishing today’s dealer rate.
Questions About Tire Pressure Sensor Replacement
Can I buy my own TPMS sensors?
Yes. Confirm fitment and the installer’s tools first. Some blank sensors need brand-specific programming software. Ochoa’s relearn price for programmed sensors does not establish an installation price for supplied parts.
Do I have to replace all four sensors?
One failed sensor can be replaced. Ask for the individual scan results and compare the total with a full-set quote before deciding.
Can a reset fix a dead sensor battery?
A reset or relearn cannot revive a dead sealed battery. It has a different purpose, such as registering replacement sensor IDs with the vehicle.
Is it cheaper to replace sensors with new tires?
Ask for a combined estimate. The tire is already coming off, but the menus do not promise a universal discount. Ochoa’s four-sensor discount has no published amount.
