Your hybrid just lit up “Check Hybrid System”, or the gas mileage has been dropping for months, and the shop tells you it is the hybrid battery. For most hybrid owners, that is the repair they have been dreading.
So how much does a hybrid battery replacement cost? From about $1,250 for a rebuilt Prius battery to around $5,000 for a Camry Hybrid battery fitted at a dealer.
In this guide I will show you what Toyota charges for a new battery, what a rebuilt one costs, what labor adds, what the warranty covers, and what owners actually paid.
I use Toyota hybrids here, because a Toyota dealer publishes its battery prices online.
Check Your Warranty First
Before you pay anything, check the warranty. Toyota covers the hybrid battery for 10 years or 150,000 miles on every hybrid from the 2020 model year on.
Older Toyota hybrids got 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever came first. So a 2020 or newer Toyota hybrid is very likely still covered.
What a New Battery From Toyota Costs
ToyotaPartsDeal is the parts website of a Toyota dealer, and it shows the list price of each hybrid battery. Here is the list price of a new battery, before labor:
The same site sells these batteries about a fifth below the list price, for example $2,144.45 for the 2018 Prius battery. Ask your dealer if it will match an online price.
The dealer site also adds a $1,350 core charge. You get it back when the old battery is returned, so it is a deposit, not a cost.
What the Labor Adds
The battery is only part of the bill. GreenTec Auto, a company that sells hybrid batteries, writes that some dealers bill four to five hours of labor for the swap.
At $132 an hour, the US average shop rate that Tekmetric found in June 2026, four to five hours comes to $528 to $660.
So a new battery in a 2021 Camry Hybrid at list price comes to about $3,365.69 + $528 = $3,893.69 or more. That fits J.D. Power’s range of $3,000 to $5,000 for a Camry Hybrid battery replacement.
A Rebuilt Battery Costs Less
You do not have to buy a new battery from Toyota. Hybrid battery specialists sell remanufactured packs and packs with new cells for much less. Here is GreenTec Auto’s price list:

These are prices for the battery. GreenTec can fit it in one of its shops or at your home, or ship it to your mechanic.
Shipping to a business is included, a home address adds $200, and a shipped battery carries a $500 deposit that comes back, minus the return shipping, when your old one does.

What Owners Paid, From Toyota Nation
Price lists are useful, but I always like to see what real owners paid. Toyota Nation, a big Toyota owners’ forum, has threads full of hybrid battery stories:
- The owner of a 2015 Toyota hybrid got a “replace hybrid battery” warning at 125,000 miles. A mobile hybrid battery company swapped it at home in 45 minutes for about $2,800, as they wrote in December 2024.
- Another owner priced a new Toyota battery, part G9510-33052, at $2,700 at a dealer, part only, in October 2024.
- For a 2020 to 2024 Highlander Hybrid, an owner saw the new battery listed at $3,889 on their dealer’s parts page in August 2024.
- The owner of a 2007 Camry Hybrid had the battery die at 10 years and 7 months, just inside the warranty. The dealer replaced it free, and the bill came to $6,500, back in 2017.
That last story shows why the warranty matters so much. The first one shows how much a rebuilt battery from a specialist can save you.
Rebuilt or New: Which One Should You Pick?
If you plan to keep the car for many years, I would pick new cells or a new Toyota battery. They cost more, but the warranties above run 36 to 48 months at GreenTec.
If you plan to sell the car in a year or two, a remanufactured battery with a 12- to 24-month warranty is the cheaper way to keep it running.
Either way, get the battery tested first. A warning light can have other causes, and a proper test is much cheaper than a battery you did not need.
