Short answer

Compare genuine splash shield prices by make, fastener costs and US owners' repair bills. Find out when a loose cover needs clips or a whole new panel.

You hear a scrape under the front of your car, look down, and find a plastic panel hanging close to the road. Before you agree to replace it, find out whether the panel is broken or its clips have simply come loose.

So engine splash shield panels in the listings below cost $75.99 to $215.17 at FordPartsGiant, HyundaiPartsDeal, HondaPartsNow and ToyotaPartsDeal. Clips, shipping, tax and fitting are extra.

I will show you current part prices by make, what the clips cost, what US owners were quoted, and what to ask about the labor.

Does the Whole Shield Need Replacing?

The first thing I would ask the shop is to show you the mounting holes. An intact panel with missing fasteners needs a different repair from one that has dragged along the road and lost its corners.

1A Auto’s repair guide separates missing fasteners and repairable cracks from damage that needs a new shield. A hanging panel alone does not settle that question.

If this started just after an oil change, contact the shop that did the work. Ask it to check how the cover was refitted before buying a replacement elsewhere.

The shield sits beneath the engine to keep out road spray and debris. This guide covers that lower panel, also called an undertray or belly pan. A wheel-well liner and a heavy off-road skid plate are different parts.

Engine Splash Shield Part Prices by Make

Here are five genuine panels listed on US parts websites, checked October 17, 2026. These are the sites’ sale prices, not MSRP. The $215.17 Accord cover was unavailable to order.

Ford Transit Connect, selected 2014 to 2018 2.5L modelsFordPartsGiant, CV6Z-6P013-E underbody shield$75.99
Hyundai Elantra, selected 2017 to 2020 sedansHyundaiPartsDeal, 29110-F2000 under-cover assembly$92.33
Honda Civic, selected 2016 to 2021 modelsHondaPartsNow, 74110-TBA-A00 under-cover assembly$128.04
Toyota Camry, selected 2018 to 2024 modelsToyotaPartsDeal, 51420-06010 under-cover assembly$169.64
Honda Accord, selected 2018 to 2022 modelsHondaPartsNow, 74110-TVA-A00 lower-cover assembly$215.17

Match the part number to your VIN before ordering. The Civic listing, for example, covers particular sedan and coupe trims; it is not a promise that the same cover fits every Civic in those years.

Part-only prices: Ford Transit Connect $75.99, Hyundai Elantra $92.33, Honda Civic $128.04, Toyota Camry $169.64 and Honda Accord $215.17.

Also check what comes in the box. HondaPartsNow’s Accord listing includes the metal access plate and its mounting hardware, but the fasteners that attach the plastic cover to the car are separate.

If only that access plate is missing, ask about buying it separately. The same Accord listing identifies it as 74116-TVA-A00, so you may not need the entire assembly.

For an aftermarket panel, compare its shape, access openings and included hardware with the original. I would also compare the delivered price with local pickup: a wide panel can be cheap until shipping is added.

How Much Do the Clips Cost?

A small fastener price can be misleading if the website sells a large pack. At HondaPartsNow, lower-cover pin 90674-TY2-A01 is $3.35 each, with a package quantity of one.

Bumper clip 91505-TM8-003 is $0.41 each at HondaPartsNow, but the listing shows a package quantity of 100. Buying that pack means 100 x $0.41 = $41 before shipping and tax.

Both are used on Honda lower covers, but they do different jobs. Use the diagram for your car to identify the missing pieces; a bag of push clips will not replace every screw, pin or clip nut.

There is no reason to order a complete set just because one fastener is missing. Have the shop count what is damaged or absent, including the mounting points the fasteners attach to.

When a Shop Charges Labor

The shop still has to raise the car, remove the old panel, fit the new one and check that it stays secure. A replacement part price does not include that work.

Ask for the panel, hardware and labor as separate lines on the quote. If the shop has already removed the cover for another repair, ask how much extra labor the replacement actually adds.

Broken mounting points or seized fasteners can make the job longer. If the quote includes bumper work, ask what was damaged in the impact; our bumper repair guide covers those larger repairs.

I did not find a dependable current shop price list for this exact job. The owner accounts below include a labor charge, but I would not turn an old bill into a national fitting rate.

What Owners Paid or Were Quoted

These US accounts help separate a whole panel replacement from a fastener repair. The dates matter: they are historical prices, alongside the current parts above.

  • A 2015 Fit owner in Luzerne, Iowa, reported a $232 replacement part quote in a complaint dated June 15, 2016. Installation had not yet been priced.
  • A 2017 Escape owner in La Harpe, Illinois, reported $45 in parts and $100 in labor for a loose-shield fastener problem, in a complaint dated March 11, 2019. That is $45 + $100 = $145; payment was not confirmed.

A Ford Rattle That May Not Need a New Shield

For some Ford and Lincoln owners, the noise has a specific fix. Ford bulletin 21-2322 addresses underbody rattle or flutter while moving on these vehicles:

  • 2015 to 2019 Ford Edge.
  • 2016 to 2018 Lincoln MKX.
  • 2019 Lincoln Nautilus.

The vehicles must have been built on or before June 5, 2019. Ford’s repair removes and discards the specified assembly-aid fasteners on the floor shields, leaving the shields in place.

The bulletin allows 0.3 hour for that particular repair. It is not a replacement time for the engine panel. Ask the dealer whether the bulletin matches your noise and whether any existing warranty covers the work.

Can You Replace It Yourself?

If you already have suitable lifting equipment and the mounting points are sound, replacing a bolt-on cover can save the fitting charge. Check the repair procedure for your model and never work under a car supported only by a jack.

Stop safely if the shield is dragging. Do not crawl underneath at the roadside. If it cannot be secured safely, arrange help; the towing guide explains how those charges work.

Questions About Splash Shield Replacement

Is an engine splash shield the same as a heat shield?

No. A lower engine splash shield blocks road spray and debris. A heat shield protects nearby parts from heat, often around the exhaust. Ask which piece the shop means if the quote only says “shield.”

Can I leave the engine splash shield off permanently?

I would replace it. 1A Auto explains that it protects the engine compartment from water and debris and helps manage airflow. Removing it leaves those jobs undone.
