If you have ever got into your car on a summer afternoon and pulled your hand back from a hot steering wheel, you have probably thought about tinting your windows.
So how much does it cost? At the four shops I checked, tinting the side windows and back glass of a car costs $229.95 to $599, from plain dyed film to the best ceramic. A big SUV can reach $669, and the windshield is extra.
In this guide I will show you the real prices of those four shops, why ceramic film costs about double, what the windshield and sunroof add, and what owners on car forums say they paid.
What Four Tint Shops Charge
Most tint shops never put a price online. You call, they ask for your car, and they give you a number. So I looked for shops that publish their prices, in four different states.

Three of them are Turbo Tint shops, in Cary, North Carolina, South Austin, Texas and Orlando, Florida. The fourth is Tint Boyz in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Here is what each charges for the side windows and back glass of a car, from their cheapest film to their best:
All four price pages were checked on October 4, 2026. A shop near you can be higher or lower, but these numbers give you a fair idea of what a normal tint job costs today.
Why Ceramic Film Costs About Double
The biggest thing that decides your price is the film. Every shop above sells two to four grades, and the price climbs with each one.
Dyed film is the cheapest. Turbo Tint describes its dyed film as the one to pick “if it’s all about the looks.” It gives you shade and privacy, and it blocks almost all UV rays, but it stops less heat than ceramic.
Ceramic film is what you pay extra for when heat is the problem. On Turbo Tint’s product pages, their ceramic film blocks up to 88% to 89% of infrared heat, and their top film up to 95%.
Here is the same car at each grade, at Turbo Tint in Orlando:
Tint Boyz in Milwaukee shows the same jump: $229.95 for SunTek carbon film and $429.95 for SunTek Ceramic CIR on most cars.
So if you only want the dark look, dyed or carbon film will do it for about $230 to $300. If your car sits in the sun all day, ceramic is where your money goes.
SUVs, Trucks and Coupes
An SUV or minivan has more glass, so it costs a little more. At Turbo Tint in Orlando the difference is only $10 to $20, but at Turbo Tint in Cary the best ceramic goes from $599 on a car to $669 on an SUV.

Pickup trucks usually cost the same as a car. Turbo Tint prices cars and trucks together, and Tint Boyz starts most pickups at $229.95, the same as a four-door car.
A two-door coupe is the cheapest. Turbo Tint in Orlando does a coupe from $179.99 in dyed film and $399.99 in ceramic.
Only the Front Doors
Many SUVs and trucks come with dark glass in the back from the factory. If yours does, you may only need the two front door windows done, so they match.
Tint is sold by a number, like 20% or 35%. That is how much light the film lets through, so the lower the number, the darker the glass.
Each state has its own limit for how dark the front windows can be, so ask the shop what is legal where you live.

The Windshield, the Sunroof and Other Extras
None of the full car prices above include the windshield. It is a big piece of glass, and shops mostly put a clear or light film on it, not a dark one.
A full windshield costs $229.99 to $279.99 at Turbo Tint in Orlando, $299 at Turbo Tint in Cary and in South Austin, and at Tint Boyz from $130 in carbon or $170 in ceramic.
A thin strip across the top of the windshield is much cheaper: $59.99 to $99 at the Turbo Tint shops and from $50 at Tint Boyz.
A sunroof adds $49 to $289 at the Turbo Tint shops, depending on the film, a panoramic roof $149 to $409, and a Tesla glass roof up to $449. At Tint Boyz a sunroof starts at $50.
If your car already has old tint, it has to come off first. That is another $25 to $269.99 at the Turbo Tint shops, and I have a full guide on the cost to remove window tint.

What Owners Paid, From Car Forums
Shop prices are one thing, but I always like to see what real people paid. Here is what owners posted on two big car forums:
- An F-150 owner on F150gen14 wrote in March 2024 that they paid $550 for full ceramic tint. Another owner in the same thread paid around $260 to $280 for ceramic.
- In the same thread, one more owner wrote that regular Llumar film on their F150 was $180 and ceramic on another car was $360.
- A Tesla Model X owner in Los Angeles paid $180 plus tax for the two front windows in XPEL Prime XR Plus ceramic, in May 2025.
- Another owner on the same Tesla forum had the same XPEL film put on the two front windows and the windshield for $450 plus tax, in June 2025.
- Tesla owners who only wanted the front windows done in April 2024 found $150 at a shop in Upland, California, paid $160 in Pennsylvania, and paid $150 for ceramic after a $120 quote turned out to be for regular film.
Look at that last one. The cheap quote was for a cheaper film. When you compare quotes, always ask which film and which brand each shop means.
The high end can go much further. A Tesla owner in Southern California shared a quote from September 2021: $895 plus tax for the sides and rear in a premium infrared film, and $395 for the windshield.
Is Ceramic Worth the Extra Money?
It depends on where you live and how you use the car. If you park in the sun every day, ceramic film keeps far more heat out, and that is what you are paying for.
If you mainly want privacy or a darker look, dyed or carbon film gives you that for about half the price.
Not every owner is sold on ceramic either. The F150gen14 owner with the $180 Llumar job felt their truck stayed cooler in summer than their other car with ceramic, and that ceramic is heavily marketed.
One more thing to check is the warranty. At the Turbo Tint shops, the two ceramic films come with a lifetime no-fault warranty that covers scratches and tears, while it costs $49 extra with the dyed film.
