Short answer

Compare plain and stamped patio rates from a Utah contractor, worked size examples and dated homeowner quotes with steps and retaining walls.

You can picture the table and chairs outside, but the patio quote changes as soon as you mention color or a stamped pattern. Before choosing a finish, give the contractor the size and ask what happens to the ground beneath it.

So Pitt Landscape in Salt Lake City publishes $10 to $16 per square foot installed for a broom-finish concrete patio with a standard base. Its single-color stamped concrete is $16 to $24 per square foot.

I checked the prices on October 25, 2026. I will show you how size changes the calculation, what decorative finishes add and why steps or difficult access need their own place on the estimate.

Concrete Patio Prices by Finish

These are Pitt Landscape’s Salt Lake Valley prices. The broom-finish entry specifies a standard base; have the other finishes’ preparation and sealing scope confirmed.

Broom-finish patioPitt Landscape; installed with standard base$10-$16 per sq ft
Exposed aggregate patioPitt Landscape; stones visible at the surface$14-$20 per sq ft
Single-color stamped concretePitt Landscape; patterned finish$16-$24 per sq ft
Multiple colors or complex patternPitt Landscape; decorative stamped work$22-$35 per sq ft

A broom finish gives the surface a brushed texture. Stamping adds a pattern; integral color puts pigment into the mix. Pitt offers these as different finish choices, so a photograph alone is not a complete specification.

I would choose the finish before comparing contractors. A plain patio and a multicolor pattern can have the same dimensions while asking the crew to do quite different work.

What a 12 x 16 or 20 x 20 Patio Works Out To

For a rectangle, multiply the length by the width. A 12 x 16-foot patio is 192 square feet. Using Pitt’s broom-finish rates gives 192 x $10 = $1,920 and 192 x $16 = $3,072.

12 x 16 feet, broom finish192 x $10 and 192 x $16; my sums from Pitt$1,920-$3,072
20 x 20 feet, broom finish400 x $10 and 400 x $16; my sums from Pitt$4,000-$6,400
20 x 20 feet, single-color stamped400 x $16 and 400 x $24; my sums from Pitt$6,400-$9,600

Those sums help you see the effect of area and finish. They do not establish a contractor’s minimum charge or price excavation, demolition, steps and unusual access for your yard.

400 square feet times Pitt rates: broom $4,000-$6,400; single-color stamped $6,400-$9,600. Separate removal, steps and difficult ground.

Pitt also gives a separate 300-square-foot broom-finish project estimate of $3,500 to $5,500 installed. Its project example is not identical to multiplying every square foot by the lowest advertised rate.

The Work Before the Concrete Arrives

Walk the route from the street to the proposed patio. Tell the contractor about gates, narrow side yards, retaining walls and existing planting you want to keep. Ask how the concrete and excavated soil will get through.

Pitt’s proposal process covers dimensions, base depth, finish and control joints. Its service description also addresses grading, compaction and drainage. Have your estimate say how much of that work is included.

For an old patio, separate breaking up the concrete, hauling it away and preparing the exposed ground. A price for new work on a ready site cannot explain the total for removing and rebuilding an existing area.

What Owners Paid or Were Quoted

The following owners describe US projects with different finishes and extras. Keep their dates beside the amounts when you use them to understand a current bid.

The Minnesota owner identifies steps in the paid job. The Maryland owner was unsure whether the higher quote included a wall; the Dayton estimates were given by phone.

Give Steps, Water and Finish Their Own Space

A patio has to meet the doors and surrounding yard at workable heights. Ask the installer to show the finished elevation, the route water will take and any steps needed between the house and the patio.

A retaining wall is another construction item. Have its drainage and foundation work described separately instead of assuming it is part of a flat patio price.

Also confirm the texture and the sealer, if any, that will be applied. Ask to see a completed example of the proposed finish and discuss how it behaves when wet.

For an existing patio, you can also read my concrete leveling guide.

Before You Accept the Patio Estimate

Pitt describes curing and sealing as separate stages after the pour. Ask how those stages fit the schedule before arranging to use the patio.

Questions About Concrete Patio Installation

What is the price per square foot for a concrete patio?

Pitt Landscape publishes $10 to $16 installed for a broom-finish patio with a standard base in the Salt Lake Valley. Decorative work and site conditions need a matching quote.

How much does a 20 x 20 concrete patio cost?

Using Pitt’s rates, broom finish works out to 400 x $10 = $4,000 through 400 x $16 = $6,400. Single-color stamping works out to 400 x $16 = $6,400 through 400 x $24 = $9,600, before separately priced work.

Does a patio installation price include removing the old one?

Only if demolition and disposal appear in the proposal. Ask what happens to the base after removal, as the exposed ground may need more work than a new patio site.

What details does Pitt put in a patio proposal?

Pitt describes a written proposal covering dimensions, base depth, finish, control joint layout and total cost, following an on-site estimate.
